The following information is provided to assist you in the planning of your wedding at Lansing United Church. We are here to help you in this significant event in your life. We want the preparations for your wedding day to be meaningful and filled with joy.
The Christian Church is involved in marriage because the faith community believes that the commitment in marriage for the expression of love and trust is of critical importance in the development of mature individuals. Furthermore, it is through self-giving love and commitment to one another that we grow to appreciate the depth of God’s love and care for us as revealed through Jesus Christ. Thus, Lansing United Church is committed to provide a service of marriage to all who seek to make this expression of love, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Arranging the Date
The first step in arranging for your marriage to take place at Lansing United Church or off-site is to consult with the minister regarding the date and the hour you have in mind. This will, of course, be a tentative booking, for all weddings are subject to meeting with and being prepared for marriage by our minister.
It is the policy of Lansing United Church that only the ministers of Lansing United Church may conduct weddings in our church. Our ministers may invite another minister to assist in a marriage service.
Interview with the Minister
An interview with the minister should be arranged as soon as possible to confirm a wedding date and to arrange for future pre-marital sessions.
Marriage License
A Marriage License can be obtained at any City Hall, and once issued is valid for 3 months. We would appreciate having it delivered to the Church office at least one week before the ceremony.
Fees
The schedule of fees relating to weddings at Lansing United Church has not been set at this time. Please discuss the following schedule with the Minister:
- A fee is charged for the use of the facilities of Lansing United Church.
- There may be a fee for the secretary, depending on the complexity of the marriage ceremony planned. This fee is applied at the discretion of the minister.
- There will be a fee for the Director of Music.
- A deposit is required to confirm your rental of the Sanctuary at Lansing United Church. There will be a cancellation fee.
All fees are to be submitted at the final pre-marital counselling session.
Music
All music in connection with a wedding must be appropriate to a Christian service of worship. After a wedding date has been set and confirmed at the first interview with the minister, the wedding couple should arrange a consultation with the Director of Music. Our Director will be able to suggest suitable music and will be happy to share ideas with you. Outside guests wishing to use church musical instruments must be approved by the Director of Music.
Photography - All Forms
Any photographer desiring to photograph or record any aspect of the wedding is asked to speak to the Officiating Minister to discuss set-up.
Flowers, Etc.
The sanctuary of our Church is really quite beautiful and further decorations tend to distract rather than add anything to the Christian symbolism of the Church. However, if you wish to have some flowers, please arrange for delivery, to the church, at least one hour before the time of your wedding for you to place them in the Sanctuary.
We are here to help make your marriage a meaningful and significant Christian celebration. Please feel free to discuss any matters that relate to your marriage and/or the details of its arrangements. We want your wedding to be an event enjoyed by all who participate and attend.
Please note:
Confetti and rice are not permitted in the Church or on the church grounds. Please remind your enthusiastic friends.
