We are excited to have been awarded funding for two Canada Summer Job positions:


Groundskeeper - Canada Summer Jobs: Contract Full-Time (8-week contract, start date as early as April 29, 2024)
Salary: $20.00 per hour
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Lansing United Church, North York, Ontario M2N 1K4

 

We are an inclusive and affirming community of faith. We are a non-denominational community multiuse facility – where all are welcome. Some of the programs found at our location include local community groups, recreational dance, genealogy, fencing, music school, licensed childcare programming, TDSB ESL programming, various summer camps, five additional ecumenical congregations and an on-site thrift shop called The Nearly New Shop.  Our garden is meant for intergenerational activity (to be enjoyed by all ages) and a place for reflection and beautification of the neighbourhood. This is a dual-role position as we are seeking someone to work with both our Property Team as well as our Nearly New Shop.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

Gardening and Outdoor Maintenance

-perform gardening tasks such as planting, weeding, edging, trimming, fertilizing and managing plant health
-painting, filling holes, assembling shelving, assisting with other maintenance projects

 

Nearly New Shop
-assist in receiving, sorting and pricing donated items
-assist shoppers with purchases
-create and manage social media posts and advertising content for the Nearly New Shop as required

 

-perform other related duties as required or assigned to support the overall goals of Lansing United Church

 

We are looking for someone who:

-enjoys multi-tasking
-is comfortable taking direction
-can work on their own or as part of an intergenerational team

-enjoys nature
-can lift up to 15 lbs

-has familiarity with gardening and maintenance tasks

Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be:
• between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

 

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

Salary: $20.00 per hour
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Lansing United Church, North York, Ontario M2N 1K4

We have three communication and marketing projects for this 8-week contract which would allow you to expand your skill set and strengthen your portfolio.

 

1-Local Community Resource Guide

-Research and compile a detailed guide of local community resources
-Establish a database for these resources with primary contacts for ongoing accessibility

 

2-Promotional Material Assessment
-Evaluate and enhance Lansing United Church’s promotional materials to ensure that they effectively communicate our identity and mission
-Responsibilities could include pamphlet design and creating engaging short video clips about Lansing for use on our website and social media platforms

 

3-Digital Engagement
-Assess our current social media content to determine its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement for better visibility
-Create social media content to be used on Lansing’s social media platforms

 

Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support the overall goals of Lansing United Church

-Demonstrates creativity and curiosity

-Can work independently while also being able to collaborate within a team
-Wants to take a project from start to finish

-Enjoys curating content and design
